How physiotherapy

Can Help yOU

Physiotherapy is a provincially regulated, drug free health care profession. We use education, exercises, modalities and our hands-on techniques to help people recover from injury, restore function and reduce pain.

Your physiotherapist will use their advanced knowledge of how the body works and moves to perform a detailed assessment to diagnose your condition and look for any contributing factors to your symptoms.  The techniques used by your physiotherapist are selected based on the combination of factors found in the assessment.  Each treatment technique creates its own physiological effect in the body including:

  • Restore lost motion of the joints of the body

  • Improve the flexibility and mobility of muscle, fascia and nerves

  • Reduce compression on nerves and blood vessels to reduce symptoms and increase circulation

  • Correct any muscle imbalances that may be contributing to your condition by developing an individualized exercise program to stretch, strengthen or relax involved muscles as well as improve posture and motor control

  • Stimulate optimal tissue healing of tendons, nerves, muscles, and ligaments

  • Educate on self-treatment and preventative measures

  • Reduce pain by stimulating the release of chemicals (endorphins) that help relieve pain

  • Prepare the body for a return to activity

Our Services

Manual Therapy

"Hands-on" treatment of joints, neural, fascial and soft tissue structures such as muscles and tendons. It includes stretching, mobilization of the myofascial and nervous system, mobilization and manipulation of the spine as well as joints in the upper and lower extremity.

A one-hour comprehensive assessment, detailed explanation of the problem and discussion of treatment options.  Subsequent one-on-one treatment sessions are directly with your physiotherapist and can include as needed, manual therapy (mobilization and manipulation of joints and soft tissue), exercise prescription and instruction, physiotherapy modalities, education and information on managing your current injury as well as prevention strategies.

Personalized

Physiotherapy

Assessment

and

Treatment

Acupuncture

Uses sterile single-use needles to reduce or relieve inflammation and pain. This is achieved by stimulating specific areas of the body to produce its own pain relieving chemicals called endorphins which help to block pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain.

Integrated

Dry Needling

(IDN)

IDN is a technique that uses acupuncture needles to release tight, shortened muscles that cause pain and alter your body mechanics.  Our therapists are able to apply the dry needling technique in combination with their Manual Therapy skills to provide comprehensive and effective treatment.

Instramuscular

Stimulation

(Gunn IMS)

A total system for the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial pain syndromes (chronic pain conditions that occur in the musculoskeletal system when there is no obvious sign of injury or inflammation).

Modalities

A variety of treatment tools are used to reduce pain and inflammation, as well as to promote tissue healing, strengthen and relax muscle. This may include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, electrical muscle stimulation, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, heat and ice and TENS.

Neuro-Developmental

Treatment

(NDT)

An approach used for the treatment of individuals with central nervous system (CNS) disorders. It is a hands-on, problem solving approach that involves direct handling and guidance from the physiotherapist to optimize function of the individual.

Breathing Evaluation and Training

Poor breathing habits can lead to a multitude of physical issues including chronic pain states. A breathing evaluation using a capnographer can evaluate the potential of reduced CO2 levels in the blood stream leading to chronic issues.

Pelvic Floor

Physiotherapy

A branch of orthopaedic manual therapy that uses both internal and external techniques to assess and treat dysfunction leading to pelvic pain and/or incontinence in both men and women.

Bracing

Gives external support to joints early on following an injury or may be used if joints remain unstable following intervention.  Bracing may allow you to return to your activities earlier and reduce the risk of re-injury. We provide Bio Skin braces, which are latex free and neoprene free to eliminate skin irritations and allergic reactions.  Our physiotherapists will measure you on-site.  Braces arrive as early as 24 hours after ordering.

Concussion

Rehabilitation

Individualized assessment and treatment for concussions and post-concussion syndrome. We use an evidence-based treatment approach and progression toward symptom free return to school, work and sport. An important component to this is completing a Baseline test before the brain injury occurs.

Concussion Baseline testing is available for individuals or teams.
